Beach Clubin'

Haha so tonight was hilarious! We were hanging out with Elier and our other Mexican friends so we were just driving around and stuff trying to figure out something to do. We wanted to go dancing but since it's summer vacations pretty much everyone our age stays in Progreso. Everyone always talks about how much fun the beach is at night and all the cool things going on there. We were a little apprehensive at first but Roberto was being so funny and being like the best sales man ever so he convinced us to go. So Brooke, Aaron, Caitlin, Tyler, Marie, and I went to Progreso at like eleven haha (sorry profe!). We got there and there were a ton of people our age just hanging out outside so we walked around for a bit.

Giant cerveza haha

Sol girls.

Then we walked down the beach for a bit because the clubs weren't open yet.

Awe, look at these love birds haha

Then it was time to hit the clubs! Haha we were pretty excited... I've never actually been in a club before so it was kind of hilarious. Also, I forgot my ID so I used my BYU student ID and it somehow that got me in... sketchy, and probably not the best place to use it haha.

Night Lyfe.

This place looked pretty legit...

Luckily for us, it was ladies night and so we got in for free!

High-class Mexican clubs!

Welcome to the high life.

Haha the DJ that hated us.

So it was exactly what we were thinking lol... it was just outside on the beach and it definitely wasn't a place to dance. Everyone just stood around and drank. They were all super rich and wore like the nicest clothes ever. I felt like I was at a celebrity event and didn't fit in. We started dancing anyways but they were laughing at us then they got mad at us because we were ruining the "culture" of the club haha. It was very different than any where else that I had been so far. Usually Caitlin and I get a lot of attention and all of the boys love us but today they didn't even take a second look haha. It was pretty much the randomest night ever.

Haha totes adorbs.

We promised that we would tell stories of this night and make it sound way crazier than it really was. We pretty much just sat around haha

Coolest crew around haha... So BA.

So the Mexican clubs ended up being a fail.. oops. But the night definitely wasn't. After we had chilled for a bit Roberto came and picked us up with his girlfriend because she wasn't old enough to get in. Then we all piled in the car and everyone fell asleep. It was like 2 or 3 by this point haha. But Caitlin and I stayed awake and we talked to Roberto, Elier, and Paola the whole way home. They are seriously my new best friends! They are so funny and so nice! I can't believe that we didn't meet them earlier =( We talked and talked and talked and planned the funnest last weekend ever! I can't wait! We're going to hang out with them every second until I leave! I love them so much. We dropped everyone off and then just chilled in the car and talked some more.

We had some great heart-to-heart conversations and Elier told us some crazy stories about his family. They used to be super rich and live in Monte Ray and their dad owned a big furniture company. Then when Elier was about 16 he got involved with some bad friends and everything went downhill. They just used him for his money and so one day he finally said no to them then they threatened to kill him and his family. He went home and told his parents and his parents woke up everyone in their family and headed straight to the airport. They flew to Merida without any of their possessions and started a whole new life. They just prayed that their family would be safe and that everything would be alright. Luckily for them, the gang members never followed them to the Yucatan but they definitely lost almost everything that they had. They still have a nice house, but apparently it is nothing like what they used to have. I feel so bad for them. If something like this happened in Canada or the USA the police would have punished those kids. But in Mexico the system is so corrupt and so the police did nothing. The bank didn't give them their money or their business back either. Definitely made me count my blessings today.
